Review of “She Dealt Her Pretty Words Like Blades” (1862)
Emily Dickinson (writer).
Read in 2021.
A poem about the sting of a catty remark. The narrator hides a pain so immense that there is an undertone of rape (some blades “wantoned with a Bone”). I find this metaphor to be narcissistic, like “They Shut Me Up in Prose” (1862).
