Review of Thank You, Mr. Lasseter (2003)

Moving picture

Miyazaki Hayao (cast), Suzuki Toshio (cast).

Seen in 2013.

The US release of Spirited Away (2001), a press junket, a visit to Pixar, various activities to amuse the visiting god.

2 and a half hours worth of documentary produced by Studio Ghibli as a record of Miyazaki and Suzuki’s 2002 trip to the US to meet John Lasseter. Not originally intended for public distribution, but it makes enough sense. Very mundane. Miyazaki is mostly aloof, volunteering much less of his creative experience and opinions than Lasseter. This makes it a better movie about Pixar than about Ghibli.
