Review of “The Brown Hand” (1899)

Text

Arthur Conan Doyle (writer).

Read in 2017.

A fine example of a colonialist attitude. The ghost’s religion requires his own body to be intact, but he settles for an unrelated “brown” hand as if it were his own. The white guys seem to have nothing but contempt for the innocent crippled lascar donor; let’s not ask him where he wants his hands to be through the rest of eternity.
