Review of The Flight of the Eagle (1982)

Moving picture, 140 minutes

Seen in 2021.

A doomed 1897 attempt by three Scandinavians to conquer the North Pole with a little buoy dropped from a balloon.

Gloomy. This gloom is an opportunity to explore the ideals of nationalism, narcissism and masculinity that prompted the obviously foolish adventure, but Troell does not fully grasp that opportunity, staying within the bounds of naturalism.
