Review of “The Man Who Planted Trees” (1987)

Moving picture, 30 minutes

A Provence man’s effort to re-forest a desolate valley in the foothills of the Alps throughout the first half of the 20th century.

Animated short based on a 1953 short story by Jean Giono. The second of Frédéric Back’s two Oscar winners. Brilliantly composed, and much more polished in its drawing style than “Crac” (1980). Unmatched fluidity.
