Review of The Pianist (2002)

Moving picture, 150 minutes

Life Is Beautiful (1997) done right. The focus on a single character’s perspective does not become worthwhile until he is alone. Up to that point I would have appreciated a wider context. The few battle scenes are filmed with extremely effective clarity, a good use of Polanski’s talents, which also shine through in a hundred gruesome details, without the film ever becoming depressing.
