Review of “The Rocking-Horse Winner” (1926)
D. H. Lawrence (writer).

Quite brilliant in the way it blends the strangeness of child psychology with greed, socio-economic distress and the supernatural. It is one of the very best treatments of the supernatural as a mere metaphor for human failings. In this way it resembles The Trial (1915): Realism breaking to illustrate some unpleasant point by metaphor.
