Review of “The Sargasso of Space” (1931)
Edmond Hamilton (writer).
Read in 2024.
A highly tendentious anti-working-class melodrama about a space hulk, here called a wreck-pack. Curiously, decompression in a space ship is imagined to be gentle, but instantly lethal. There must have been only a brief window of opportunity for this specific combination of two misapprehensions, departing from reality in opposite directions, in the popular imagination.
