Review of The Story of Qiu Ju (1992)
A peasant woman in a generalized version of Xi An seeks an apology from the chief of her village after he assaults her husband for trying to build a shed on the couple’s land, which had been designated for agriculture. The government proves slightly more cooperative than expected, but has its own ideas on how to solve the conflict.
Realist drama. The world’s least slapstick treatment of a kick in the groin.
