Review of “This Consciousness That Is Aware” (1864)

Emily Dickinson (writer).

Read in 2021.

I take this to be philosophical non-fiction, but to the extent that it describes belief, it is unfounded. Dickinson’s false belief in the persistence of the mind after death must have been very common in her time. The poetry she wrote about it is rarely very good, and never more articulate than this.
