Review of Wild About New Zealand (2000)

Moving picture

Seen in 2017.

Natural reserves in contemporary New Zealand, described by a local tourist guide.

50% nature film, 20% history of local conservationism, 30% advertisement for the local tourist industry. The word “karst” sounds pretty funny in the local dialect. The first episode shows a badass avian dinosaur kea killing a defenceless sheep by sitting on its back and eating its kidneys. The episode ends with a kick at Australia. The second episode opportunely name-drops Middle Earth while The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001) and its trilogy are still being shot in part in New Zealand.
