Review of Yuri on Ice (2016)

Moving picture, 4.7 hours

Seen in 2018.

Figure-skating competition and love.

Sporting romance. Crafted well enough to be watchable even for me, a person with little interest in homoeroticism and none in sports or celebrities like Hanyū Yuzuru. I was surprised to find that the various different kinds of jumps etc. are not explained or particularly aestheticized. I was intensely amused by Otabek’s constant serious demeanour and moved by JJ’s collapse.
