Review of “Zygote” (2017)

Moving picture, 23 minutes

Seen in 2021.

Rather late in the game, a man with no eyeballs entrusts the future to one of the Canary Class.

Yes it’s thin and derivative of Alien (1979), but this is much better than “Rakka” (2017) or “Firebase” (2017), the other well-received concept shorts from a frenetic year at Oats Studios.

The monster is gorgeous, like Keith Thompson meeting Akira (1988). The cyberpunk-style worldbuilding is delicious, aside from the unlikely detail that every part of the facility uses a form of single-factor biometric authentication especially vulnerable to the monster’s attack.
