A talk on changes to the production and reception of animation through the author’s life to date.
It’s an amusing note that mecha animators had more freedom at this time because their shows were not adaptations, whereas the people making Urusei Yatsura (1981) had to stick to the original characters. I guess Oshii didn’t get the memo.
