Reviews of “Steamboat Willie” (1928) and related work

“Steamboat Willie” (1928Moving picture, 8 minutes)

The first cartoon made with synchronized sound. Ecocritically and historically interesting. Otherwise dull. Its making brought the tiny industry of cartoons through the Jazz Singer (1927) check valve. This ended the possibility of another “Symphonie Diagonale” (1924).

“Mickey’s Trailer” (1938Moving picture, 8 minutes)

The centerpiece shots of the caravan careening down hill looks like an extension of this motif in “I Wanna Play House” (1936).
